A fire broke out at the Wasilla Bible Church yesterday while
a group of women worked on crafts inside, all of whom escaped without
injury. The church itself sustained an estimated one million dollars worth
of damage, and investigators say that

Palin: The speech you never got to hear
[Below is
the text of the speech Sarah Palin was to have delivered at a Monday rally
protesting Ahmadinejad's appearance at the UN. Palin's speech was canceled
in a struggle between protest organizers and Hillary Clinton, who had also
been invited to speak. Clinton reps complained they had been "blindsided" by
the Palin invite, which they labeled a partisan move. Clinton withdrew her
participation and Palin's invitation was rescinded}
I
am honored to be with you and with leaders from across this great country -
leaders from different faiths and political parties united in a single voice
of outrage.
Tomorrow, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come to New York -
to the heart of what he calls the Great Satan - and speak freely in this, a
country whose demise he has called for.
Ahmadinejad may choose his words carefully, but underneath all of the
rhetoric is an agenda that threatens all who seek a safer and freer world.
We gather here today to highlight the Iranian dictator's intentions and to
call for action to thwart him. He must be stopped.
The world must awake to the threat this man poses to
all of us. Ahmadinejad denies that the Holocaust ever took place. He dreams
of being an agent in a "Final Solution" - the elimination of the Jewish
people. He has called Israel a "stinking corpse" that is "on its way to
annihilation."
Such talk cannot be dismissed as the ravings of a madman - not when Iran
just this summer tested long-range Shahab-3 missiles capable of striking Tel
Aviv, not when the Iranian nuclear program is nearing completion, and not
when Iran sponsors terrorists that threaten and kill innocent people around
the world.

Alaska AG nixes
'Troopergate' subpoenas
Alaska’s investigation into whether

Palin:
True or False?
False Internet claims and
rumors fly about McCain's running mate.
We’ve
been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet
postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain’s running mate,
Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.
1)
Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62
percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact,
she tripled per-pupil funding
over just three years
2)
She did not demand that books be
banned from the Wasilla library.
Some of the books on a widely
circulated list were not even in print at the time.
The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian
continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.
3)
She was never a member of the
Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether
they wish to secede from the United States.
She’s been registered as a
Republican since May 1982.
4)
Palin never endorsed or
supported Pat Buchanan for president.
She once wore a Buchanan button
as a "courtesy" when he
visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the
campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.
5)
Palin has not pushed for
teaching creationism in Alaska's schools.
She has said that students
should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question,
but she also said creationism
"doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."
We'll be looking
into other charges in an e-mail by a woman named Anne Kilkenny for a future
story. For more explanation of the bullet points above, please read the
Analysis.

Campaign pulls Palin from pro-life event
Move baffles Phyllis Schlafly: 'I don't think it was very smart'
The McCain campaign canceled at the
last minute a long-scheduled appearance by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to accept
a pro-life award from conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly.
Speaking to WND after the gathering
today of some 800 Republicans near the site of the party's national
convention, Schlafly said she was informed about 10 p.m. last night that the
newly named vice-presidential nominee would not attend.
"I don't think it was very smart,"
said Schlafly, known for her successful battle against the Equal Rights
Amendment. "You can see these people are very supportive of her, and it
would have been very good for her to come."
A picture refutes a thousand
nutcase Palin conspiracies
I’d like to share a picture of
Governor Sarah Palin’s lovely young family, a photo that some may have
already seen in connection to a despicable Internet smear against the Palins.
Here we have Sarah and Todd with their daughters Piper, Willow, and
Bristol. A few bloggers have pointed to the curve of Bristol’s stomach,
rather typical for teens, as
proof that it was she
who gave birth to Trig Palin in April 2008, and not Governor Palin.
Either the Palin women have a record
gestational period, or this proves that Bristol’s small amount of “baby fat”
has nothing to do with an actual baby. She’s a normal young teenage
girl, not the center of a grand conspiracy to hide some deep, dark family
secret — the type of which stopped being deep and dark a few decades ago.
